ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of exogenous amylase on gas production, in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), and in vitro digestion kinetics of sorghum (Sorghum vulgaris) and two corn hybrids of different grain textures. Ruminal fluid was collected from two rumen-fistulated cows receiving or not exogenous amylase (0.7g kg-1 of dry matter (DM basis)), provided to achieve 396 kilo Novo units kg-1 for amylase activity (DM basis). Gas production was measured after 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 30, 36, 42 e 48 hours of incubation. Amylase increased gas production (mL) by 5.4%. Corn hybrids have higher in vitro dry matter digestibility than sorghum. Exogenous amylase increased the potential of gas production (A) (P=0.01). There was an effect of hybrid for IVDMD (P<0.01). The addition of exogenous amylase increases the in vitro gas production, improves fermentation kinetics, and increases the production of the ammonia nitrogen of corn and sorghum grains, but does not affect in vitro and dry matter digestibility or the short-chain fatty acids production.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da amilase exógena na produção de gases, a digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca (DIVMS) e a cinética de digestão in vitro de sorgo (Sorghum vulgaris) e de dois híbridos de milho de diferentes texturas de grãos. O líquido ruminal foi coletado de duas vacas fistuladas no rúmen recebendo ou não amilase exógena (0,7g kg-1 de matéria seca (MS)), fornecida para atingir 396 kg Novo unidades kg-1 para atividade de amilase (base na MS). A produção de gás foi medida após uma, três, seis, nove, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 30, 36, 42 e 48 horas de incubação. A amilase aumentou a produção de gás (mL) em 5,4%. Híbridos de milho apresentam maior DIVMS que o sorgo. A amilase exógena aumentou o potencial de produção de gás (A) (P=0,01). Houve efeito de híbrido para DIVMS (P<0,01). Amilase exógena aumenta a produção de gás in vitro, melhora a cinética da fermentação e aumenta a produção de nitrogênio amoniacal de grãos de milho e sorgo, mas não afeta a digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca ou a produção de ácidos graxos de cadeia curta.

RESUMO A relação da eficiência nutricional com a idade e o peso à puberdade e as características reprodutivas foram estudadas em 35 novilhas F1 Holandês x Gir, em ensaios usando o consumo alimentar residual (CAR) nos períodos pós-desaleitamento (PD) e pós-puberdade (PP). Novilhas PD (P<0,0001) e PP (P<0,001) foram ranqueadas como de alta, intermediária e baixa eficiências e apresentaram CAR de -0,259 -0,014 e 0,346kg/dia e -0,848 -0,096 e 0,842kg/dia, respectivamente. Novilhas PD diferiram (P<0,05) na idade à puberdade entre ranques de alta, intermediária e baixa eficiências, em média, aos 339,7; 346,4; 315,3 dias, respectivamente. Os pesos à puberdade de novilhas PD com alta, intermediária e baixa eficiências foram, em média, de 321±28,1kg e não diferiram (P>0,05) entre CAR. Não foi verificada correlação entre diâmetro folicular, taxa de crescimento do folículo, número de ondas foliculares no ciclo estral e taxa de gestação à primeira IA com o CARPD ou CARPP. Novilhas F1HG selecionadas para CAR com baixa eficiência podem ter idade à puberdade 10 dias a mais, quando comparadas às novilhas de alta eficiência para CAR. Não foi verificado que novilhas selecionadas para alta ou baixa eficiências alimentares, usando CAR, tivessem algum impacto negativo sobre características reprodutivas avaliadas.

ABSTRACT The relationship between nutritional efficiency and age and weight at puberty and reproductive traits was studied in 35 F1 Holstein x Gyr heifers, in trials using residual food consumption (CAR) in the post-weaning (PW) and post-pubertal (PP) periods. PD heifers (P<0.0001) and PP (P<0.001) were classified as high, intermediate and low efficiencies and presented CAR of -0.259 -0.014 and 0.346kg/day and -0.848 -0.096 and 0.842kg/day, respectively. PD heifers differed (P<0.05) in age at puberty between high, intermediate and low efficiencies, on average, at 339.7, 346.4 and 315.3 days, respectively. The weight at puberty of PD heifers with high, intermediate and low efficiencies were, on average, 321±28.1kg and did not differ (P>0.05) between CAR. No correlation was found between follicular diameter, follicle growth rate, number of follicular waves in the estrous cycle and pregnancy rate at 1st AI with the CARPD or CARPP. F1HG heifers selected for CAR with low efficiency can be aged at puberty 10 days longer when compared to high-efficiency heifers for CAR. These results did not show that heifers selected for high or low food efficiency, using CAR, had negative impact on the reproductive characteristics evaluated.

A partição de energia e a produção de metano por ovinos alimentados com silagens de três híbridos de sorgo comerciais (BRS 610, BR 700 e BRS 655), colhidos em três estádios de maturação (leitoso, pastoso e farináceo), foram avaliadas em câmaras respirométricas de circuito aberto. Utilizou-se delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, em arranjo fatorial 3 x 3 (híbridos x estádios de maturação), e as médias foram comparadas pelo teste Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK) (P<0,05). Os consumos de matéria seca, de matéria seca digestível, de energia bruta, de energia digestível e de energia metabolizável não foram afetados pelo estádio de maturação, mas foram influenciados pelo híbrido de sorgo. O consumo de energia líquida foi influenciado pela maturidade e pelo híbrido. As perdas de energia nas fezes representaram a principal fonte de perda energética como porcentagem do consumo de energia bruta (48% a 52%), seguida pelo incremento calórico (10% a 19%), pela emissão de metano (4% a 6%) e pela urina (1 a 2%). Não houve diferenças (P>0,10) entre os tratamentos para a digestibilidade aparente da energia bruta e para a metabolizabilidade (qm). Foi observada interação (P<0,05) entre híbrido de sorgo e estádio de maturação para eficiência de uso da energia metabolizável para mantença (Km), que variou entre 0,53 e 0,78. Não ocorreram diferenças (P>0,10) entre tratamentos na produção diária de metano. A emissão de metano em gramas por kg de matéria seca digestível e por kg de fibra em detergente neutro digestível foi inferior no estádio pastoso comparado ao estádio farináceo.

Energy partitioning and methane production by sheep fed silages of three commercially available sorghum hybrids (BRS 610, BR 700 and BRS 655) harvested at three maturation stages (milk, soft dough and floury) were evaluated in open circuit respiration chambers. A complete randomized design was used in a 3 × 3 (hybrids × maturity stages) factorial arrangement, and the means were compared by the Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK) test (P<0.05). The intake of dry matter, digestible dry matter, gross energy, digestible energy and metabolizable energy were not affected by maturation stage, but were influenced by hybrid. The net energy intake was influenced by maturity and sorghum genetics. The fecal output represented the main source of energy loss, as percentage of gross energy intake (48% to 52%), followed by heat increment (10% to 19%), methane emissions (4% to 6%) and urine (1% to 2%). There were no differences (P>0.10) among the treatments for the apparent digestibility of gross energy and metabolizability (qm). An interaction (P<0.05) between sorghum hybrid and maturation stages was observed for the efficiency of metabolizable energy utilization for maintenance (km), which ranged between 0.53 and 0.78. No differences (P>0.10) among treatments occurred in the daily methane production. There is substantial genetic diversity within sorghum species, determining different nutritional values. Sorghum genetics and maturity at harvest should not be an opportunity to reduce the contribution of agriculture to methane emissions.

Foi avaliada a cinética de fermentação ruminal in vitrode três híbridos comerciais de milho (BRS 1035, BRS 1031 e BRS 1001) colhidos em três estádios de maturidade (pastoso, farináceo e farináceo-duro). Após 96 horas de fermentação, não houve diferença na PCG entre as silagens dos híbridos colhidos nos diferentes estádios de maturidade (P>0,05). O potencial máximo de produção de gases das silagens de todos os híbridos reduziu com o avançar da maturidade da planta, sendo a variação encontrada de 259,3 a 280,0mL/g de matéria seca (MS). Os valores de tempo de colonização variaram de 0h06min a 1h54min. Para as silagens dos híbridos BRS 1035 e BRS 1001, houve aumento no tempo de colonização com o avançar da maturidade da planta. Para as silagens do híbrido BRS 1031, houve aumento dos valores de tempo de colonização quando a planta avançou do estádio pastoso para farináceo, e reduziu quando a maturidade alcançou o estádio farináceo-duro. A taxa fracional de produção de gases "µ" variou entre 0,03mL/h a 0,05mL/h. Com o avançar da maturidade fisiológica, as silagens dos híbridos BRS 1035 e BRS 1001 apresentaram aumento nos valores de µ; já para as silagens do híbrido BRS 1031, os valores de µ aumentaram quando o estádio de maturidade avançou de pastoso para farináceo, e reduziu para farináceo-duro. Os valores das degradabildades efetivas foram superiores para as silagens dos diferentes híbridos colhidas no estádio pastoso. As degradabilidades da MS com o tempo de fermentação de 96 horas variaram de 70,1 a 76,4%. A silagem do híbrido BRS 1035 apresentou melhor valor nutricional quando colhida no estádio pastoso de maturidade. Já a silagem do híbrido BRS 1031 apresentou valor nutricional superior no estádio farináceo, enquanto a silagem do híbrido BRS 1001 apresentou melhor valor nutricional no estádio farináceo-duro.

The in vitro ruminal fermentation kinetics of three commercial corn hybrids (BRS 1035, BRS 1031 and BRS 1001) harvested at three maturity stages (soft dough, floury and hard-floury) were evaluated. After 96 hours of fermentation there was no change in the cumulative gas production (GPC) among silages harvested for all hybrids (P>0.05). The silages maximal degradation potential for all hybrids decreased with advanced maturity stages, and ranged from 259.32 to 279.96mL/g of dry matter. The lag values ranged from 0h 06min to 1h 54min. For silages from the BRS 1035 and BRS 1001 hybrids, there was an increase in lag with advancing plant maturity. For silage from the BRS 1031 hybrid, the lag values increase when the plant moved of soft dough stage to floury, and was reduced to hard-floury stage. The fractional rate of gas production µ ranged from 0.0292mL/h to 0.0447mL/h. With advancing physiological maturity stages, the hybrids BRS 1035 and BRS 1001 showed an increase in the µ values, since for silage from the BRS 1031 hybrid, the value of µ increased when the maturity stage progressed from soft dough to floury, and reduced to hard-floury. The values of effective degradability were higher for silages from different hybrids harvested at soft dough. The dry matter degradability (DMD) in the fermentation time of 96 hours ranged from 70.14 to 76.40%. The silage from the BRS 1035 hybrid showed better nutritional value when harvested in the soft dough stage of maturity. The silage from the BRS 1031 hybrid showed highest nutritional value at the floury stage, while the silage from the BRS 1001 hybrid showed better nutritional value in the hard-floury stage.

Os cadinhos filtrantes (porosidade 1) originalmente usados na técnica in vitro semi-automática de produção de gases estabelecida no Laboratório de Produção de Gases da Escola de Veterinária da UFMG podem ocasionar interferências nos estudos de quantificação da degradação de alimentos, principalmente os ricos em amido, devido à obstrução dos poros da placa filtrante pelo material residual após fermentação. Este estudo objetivou avaliar a substituição dos cadinhos filtrantes por sacos F57 (Ankom(r)) visando a realização de experimentos in vitro para descrição da cinética de fermentação e degradação ruminal. Esta substituição causou a redução do peso/volume da amostra incubada e desta forma, interferiu na relação pressão (P) / volume (V) e consequentemente inviabilizou a utilização de equação previamente estabelecida por Mauricio et al. (2003). Desta forma, objetivou-se neste estudo estabelecer equação para estimar o volume de gases produzidos a partir de dados de P e V obtidos pela fermentação de sorgo forrageiro, incluindo partes da planta e planta inteira, incubados em sacos F57 (Ankom(r)). Foram quantificados 474 dados simultâneos de pressão e volume os quais variaram de 0 a 4.670 psi e os de volume entre 0 e 38mL. A equação relacionando P e V obtida foi: V (mL) = 0.747 (s.e. 0.0733) + 7.23 P (s.e. 0.1165) + 0.101 P2 (s.e. 0.0372), (R2 = 0.99). O desenvolvimento desta equação viabilizou a utilização dos sacos F57 (Ankom(r)) pela na técnica in vitro semi-automática de produção de gases e, portanto permitindo a quantificação dos resíduos da fermentação favorecendo a acurácia dos resultados.

Avaliaram-se a degradabilidade da matéria seca e a cinética de fermentação ruminal das silagens de três genótipos de milheto (BRS-1501, NPM-1 e CMS-3), por meio da técnica in vitro semi-automática de produção de gases. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso em arranjo de parcelas subdivididas. Para a comparação dos genótipos, foi utilizado o teste SNK (P<0,05), e os parâmetros da cinética de fermentação foram ajustados ao modelo unicompartimental de France. A partir de 24 horas, a silagem do genótipo BRS-1501 foi a que apresentou maior produção acumulativa de gases. Os valores de degradabilidade da matéria seca apresentados às 96 horas de fermentação foram de 53,9% para a silagem do BRS-1501, 51,7% para a silagem do CMS-3 e 49,1% para a silagem do NPM-1, sendo este o material com menor degradabilidade (P<0,05). Os potenciais máximos de produção de gases variaram de 145,18 para o genótipo CMS-3 a 155,02ml/g de MS para o BRS-1501. A silagem do genótipo BRS-1501 destacou-se entre as demais, em função do seu maior potencial de produção de gases e degradabilidades efetivas.

The dry matter digestibility and the fermentation kinetics of three pearl millet genotypes silages (BRS-1501, NPM-1, and CMS-3) were estimated by the semi-automated in vitro gas production technique, using a completely randomized blocks design in a split plot arrangement. The genotypes means were compared by SNK test (P<0.05) and fermentation kinetics parameters estimated by regression of gas production on time using the France model. The greater cumulative gas production from 24 hours on was obtained by BRS-1501 genotype silage. The dry matter degradability (DMD) values at 96 hours of incubation were 53.9% for BRS-1501, 51.7% for NPM-1, and 49.1% for CMS-3 silage. The lowest DMD (P<0.05) among the studied genotypes silages was observed for CMS-3 silage. The maximum potential of gas production ranged from 145.18ml/g of dry matter for CMS-3 genotype silage to 155.02ml/g of dry matter for BRS-1501 silage. The BRS-1501 genotype silage showed the highest potential of gas production and effective degradabilities.

Avaliou-se a cinética de fermentação ruminal de capim-braquiarão cortado aos 28, 56, 84 e 112 dias de rebrota, mediante o uso da técnica in vitro semi-automática de produção de gases. A relação entre a digestibilidade da matéria seca e a produção acumulada de gases foi linear em todas as idades ao corte. O capim-braquiarão cortado aos 28 e aos 56 dias apresentou a maior taxa de produção de gases em torno das 18 horas de incubação, enquanto na forragem cortada aos 84 e 112 dias a maior taxa foi observada após 48 horas de incubação. Em todos os tempos de incubação a produção acumulada de gases foi maior na forragem cortada aos 28 e aos 56 dias. Conclui-se que o melhor momento de utilização do capim-braquiarão está entre as idades de 28 e de 56 dias, devido à maior fermentabilidade ruminal da forrageira cortada nessas idades.

Fermentation kinetics of Brachiaria brizantha cv Marandu harvested on 28, 56, 84, and 112 days of growth was evaluated with the semi-automatic in vitro gas production technique. Regression equations between volume of gas and dry-matter digestibility during fermentation periods of treatments were linear. Marandu grass harvested on 28 and 56 days of growth showed the greatest rate of gas production around 18 hours of incubation, while the rate of gas production of forages cut at 84 and 112 days reached the peak at 36 hours of incubation. Cumulative gas production was higher on 28 and 56 days of harvest intervals than grass harvested on 84 and 112 days. Therefore, the best harvest stage for using Brachiaria brizantha cv Marandu were between 28 and 56 days due to highest ruminal fermentability.

Estudaram-se as características de fermentação da cana-de-açúcar (RB72454) submetida aos tratamentos: controle; 0,5% uréia; 0,5% zeólita; 0,5% uréia e 0,5% zeólita; inoculante bacteriano comercial; inoculante bacteriano/enzimático comercial. O material ensilado foi aberto com um, três, cinco, sete, 14, 28 e 56 dias de fermentação e analisado quanto aos teores de MS, carboidratos solúveis, PB, NNH3/NT, pH, FDN, FDA, celulose, hemicelulose, lignina e DIVMS. Observou-se redução do conteúdo de MS em todas as silagens, com média de 21,1%, em relação ao material original (28,7%). A concentração média de carboidratos solúveis no material original foi de 19,7% e, após 56 dias de fermentação, foi de 0,92%. A concentração de PB das silagens testemunha e tratadas com zeólita, inoculante comercial bacteriano e inoculante comercial bacteriano/enzimático variou entre 2,1% e 3,1% e naquelas que receberam uréia e uréia+zeólita foi de 8,4%. Os teores de NNH3/NT foram inferiores a 10% nas silagens testemunha e tratadas com zeólita, inoculante bacteriano comercial e inoculante bacteriano/enzimático comercial, entretanto foi de 30,4% e 31,1% nas silagens com uréia e uréia+zeólita, respectivamente. No primeiro dia de fermentação, o pH apresentou média de 3,75. Após 56 dias de fermentação, as concentrações de FDN, FDA, celulose e hemicelulose aumentaram, apresentando média entre os tratamentos de 68,6%, 39,6%, 34,5% e 29,1%, respectivamente. O coeficiente de DIVMS reduziu-se com a ensilagem, em todos os tratamentos avaliados, sendo de 57,6% no material original e média de 47,6% nas silagens.

The characteristics of fermentation of sugarcane (RB72454) submitted to the treatments control; 0.5% urea; 0.5% zeolita; 0.5% urea and 0.5% zeolita; commercial bacterial inoculant and commercial bacterial/enzymatic inoculant were studied. The material stored in silos was opened on 1, 3, 5, 7, 14, 28 and 56 days of fermentation and was analysed for grades of MS, soluble carbohydrates, PB, NNH3/NT, pH, FDN, FDA, cellulosis, hemicellulosis, lignin and DIVMS. The reduction of the MS content of the silos was observed, with average of 21.1% compared to the original material (28.7%). The concentration of carbohydrates soluble on the original material was 19.7% and, after 56 days of fermentation, it was 0.92%. The concentration of PB in the control silage and treated with zeolita, commercial bacterial inoculant and commercial bacterial/enzymatic inoculant varied between 2.1% and 3.1% and in thoses that received urea and urea+zeolita was 8.4%. The grades of NNH3/NT were lower than 10% in the control silage and treated with zeolita, commercial bacterial inoculant and commercial bacterial/enzymatic inoculant. However, they were 30.4% and 31.1% in the silage with urea and urea+zeolita, respectively. On the first day of fermentation, the pH presented average of 3.75. After 56 days of fermentation, the concentration of FDN, FDA, cellulosis and hemicellulosis increased, presenting averages considering the treatments of 68.6%, 39.6%, 34.5% and 29.1%, respectively. The coefficient of DIVMS reduced with the fermentation, in all the evaluated treatments, being of 57.6% in the original material and averaging 47.6% in the silages.

The objective of this study was to compare the nutritional value of sorghum-sudangrass hybrids to roughages collected in differed pastures, reserves of forage for using in cutting regime and conserved forage as hays or silages. The sorghum-sudangrass hybrids AG2501C and BRS800 showed similar bromatological composition and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD). Compared to other roughages, theses hybrids presented a higher protein level and intermediary values of cell wall contents. The coefficients of IVDMD observed for sorghum-sudangrass hybrids were not statistically different to the results of corn silage, elephantgrass and sugarcane managed in cutting regime. However, IVDMD of those hybrids was significantly higher than of coast-cross and tifton 85 hays, sorghum silage and differed pastures of Brachiaria brizantha and signal grass. The results indicated that sorghum-sudangrass hybrids may be used as roughage of high nutritional value during the drought.

Três tipos de silos experimentais foram utilizados para a avaliação das silagens de três genótipos de girassol: A) silo padrão com válvula de Bunsen; B) silo dotado de compartimento para efluentes e C) silo com válvula de Bunsen e compartimento para efluentes. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 3×3 (genótipos × tipos de silos) com três repetições. As características avaliadas foram: matéria seca (MS), densidade, proteína bruta (PB), nitrogênio amoniacal (N-NH3/N-T), pH, carboidratos solúveis (CHO), ácidos orgânicos, constituintes da parede celular, extrato etéreo (EE) e digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca (DIVMS). As silagens obtidas nos silos B e C apresentaram os maiores valores de MS e menores de NH3/N-T. Os valores de pH se equivaleram nos três tipos de silos, enquanto os teores de CHO foram menores para as silagens obtidas nos silos B e C. Os silos dotados de compartimento para efluentes apresentaram os maiores valores de ácido láctico. As frações fibrosas, EE e DIVMS não sofreram influência dos tipos de silos. A presença ou ausência da válvula de Bunsen não influenciou os parâmetros avaliados. A presença do compartimento para efluentes afetou a qualidade e o valor nutritivo da silagem de girassol.

A completely randomized design in a 3×3 factorial scheme was used to evaluate the effect of three genotypes and three types of silos on sunflower silage. The silos were: A- silo with Bunsen valve; B- silo with effluent-collecting equipment; and C- silo with both Bunsen valve and effluent-collecting equipment. The parameters evaluated were: dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ammonia nitrogen (N-NH3/T-N), pH, soluble carbohydrates (CHO), organic acids, cell wall constituents, ether extract and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD). The silage from silos B and C had higher values of DM and lower levels of N-NH3/T-N. The pH value was the same for all silos, while the CHO was the same for silos B and C. Sunflower silage from silos with effluent-collecting equipment showed higher values of lactic acid. For fibrous fractions, EE and IVDMD, no effect of silo type was found. The Bunsen valve had no effect on the measured parameters. However, the effluent-collecting equipment affected both the quality and nutritive value of sunflower silage.

Estimou-se a degradabilidade in situ de 10 forrageiras tropicais em três idades ao corte (21, 42 e 63 dias) e em três tempos de incubação (6, 24 e 96h). As forrageiras utilizadas foram: Andropogon gayanus cv. Planaltina, Brachiaria brizantha (acessos 3401, 3413 e 3451 CPAC), Cenchrus ciliaris (acessos 79119, 79146, 79148, 80199 e 81302 CPATSA) e Panicum maximum (3616 CPAC). Os acessos de B. brizantha, P. maximum e A. gayanus apresentaram os maiores valores de degradabilidade da matéria seca e os de C. ciliaris os valores mais baixos. Todas as forrageiras apresentaram queda no desaparecimento da matéria seca com o avanço da idade. Os acessos de Brachiaria brizantha 3413 e 3451 apresentaram as maiores degradabilidades efetivas.

The ruminal degradability of 10 tropical forages at three cutting times (21, 42 and 63 days) incubated at 6, 24 and 96 hours using the in situ technique was estimated. The forages were: Andropogon gayanus cv. Planaltina, Brachiaria brizantha (accesses 3401, 3413, 3451 CPAC), Cenchrus ciliaris (accesses 79119, 79146, 79148, 80199 and 81302 CPATSA) and Panicum maximum (3616 CPAC). The accesses of B. brizantha, P. maximum and A. gayanus cv Planaltina presented the highest dry matter degradability values and the accesses of C. ciliaris the lowest. For all forages, increased cutting age led to dry matter reduction. The accesses of B. brizantha 3413 and 3451 presented the best effective degradabilities.

Avaliou-se o comportamento forrageiro de 23 genótipos experimentais e dois cultivares controle (AG2501C e BRS800) de híbridos de sorgo (Sorghum bicolor cv. Bicolor) com capim-sudão (Sorghum bicolor cv. Sudanense), utilizados em regime de corte. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso com três repetições por tratamento e a comparação das médias foi feita pelo teste de Scott-Knott. A produção de matéria verde colhida 57 dias após o plantio variou de 24,8 a 37,8 t/ha, e a produção de matéria seca de 3,5 a 5,8 t/ha, mas não houve diferença significativa entre híbridos. Houve grande variação quanto à relação folha/colmo, com diferença significativa entre os híbridos. A altura das plantas apresentou variações (P<0,05) entre híbridos e foi positivamente correlacionada (P<0,01) com as características de produção. A produtividade observada revela o potencial dos híbridos de sorgo com capim-sudão como alternativa para a produção de forragem. A diferença na relação colmo/folha pode servir como critério de seleção dos genótipos.

The objective of this study was to evaluated the forage potential of 23 experimental genotypes and two check cultivars (AG2501C and BRS800) obtained by crossing sorghum (Sorghum bicolor cv. Bicolor) with sudangrass (Sorghum bicolor cv. Sudanense), managed in a cutting regime. The experimental procedure followed a completely randomized block design, including three replications per treatment and the mean values were compared by Scott-Knott test. Fifty seven days after sowing, the fresh matter production varied from 24.8 up to 37.8 t/ha, and dry matter production from 3.5 up to 5.8 t/ha, both results were not statistically different. It was observed great variation to leaf/stem ratio, and difference (P<0.05) among treatments. The height of the plants presented variation (P<0.05) among hybrids and was positively correlated (P<0.01) with the production characteristics. The productivity demonstrated the potential of these hybrids for forage production in central area of Brazil in the beginning of drought period. The significant difference in leaf/stem ratio could be used as a criterion for genotype selection.

Avaliou-se o valor nutritivo de 23 genótipos experimentais e dois cultivares controle (AG2501C e BRS800) de híbridos de sorgo com capim-sudão (Sorghum bicolor cv. Bicolor × Sorghum bicolor cv. Sudanense), manejados em regime de corte. Foram realizadas análises de composição bromatológica e determinada a cinética de fermentação ruminal da matéria seca (MS) pela técnica in vitro semi-automática de produção de gases. A produção acumulada de gases foi analisada segundo delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso em esquema de parcela subdividida. Para as demais características foi utilizado delineamento inteiramente ao acaso. As médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Scott-Knott. Os genótipos CMSXS212*CMSXS912 e ATF14*CMSXS912 apresentaram os mais altos (P<0,05) teores de MS. Os genótipos (A3TX430*CMSXS225)*CMSXS912, (A3TX430*CMSXS227)*CMSXS912, (BR007*CMSXS217)*CMSXS912, CMSXS210*CMSXS912, CMSXS157*CMSXS912, CMSXS215*CMSXS912, ATF14*CMSXS912, CMSXS205*CMSXS912, CMSXS156*CMSXS912, CMSXS107*CMSXS912, CMSXS216*CMSXS912 apresentaram os mais elevados (P<0,05) teores de proteína bruta. Não houve variação entre os híbridos quanto à concentração dos componentes da parede celular, aos parâmetros cinéticos de fermentação ruminal e à degradabilidade efetiva da MS.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the nutritional value of 23 experimental genotypes and two control cultivars (AG2501C and BRS800) obtained by crossing sorghum with sudangrass (Sorghum bicolor cv. Bicolor × Sorghum bicolor cv. Sudanense), managed in a cutting regime. The bromatological analysis was performed, and the kinetics parameters of dry matter fermentation was obtained by the semi-automated in vitro gas production technique. A completely randomized block design was used for total gas production in a split plot arrangement. For all other responses an entirely randomized design was applied. The mean values were compared by Scott-Knott test. The genotypes CMSXS212*CMSXS912 and ATF14*CMSXS912 showed the highest dry matter content and the genotypes (A3TX430*CMSXS225)*CMSXS912, (A3TX430*CMSXS227)*CMSXS912, (BR007*CMSXS217)*CMSXS912, CMSXS210*CMSXS912, CMSXS157*CMSXS912, CMSXS215*CMSXS912, ATF14*CMSXS912, CMSXS205*CMSXS912, CMSXS156*CMSXS912, CMSXS107*CMSXS912, CMSXS216*CMSXS912 showed the highest protein level. The cell wall contents, the kinetics parameters and the effective dry matter degradation for all the hybrids were not statistically different.

Avaliaram-se algumas características agronômicas relevantes de 12 híbridos e uma variedade de girassol (Helianthus annuus L.), participantes do ensaio nacional de girassol, no ano agrícola 1996/97, destinados à produção de silagem. O experimento foi conduzido de fevereiro a junho, utilizando-se delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso e comparação das médias pelo teste Student-Newman-Keuls. Foram obtidas diferenças significativas entre os híbridos para as produções de matéria verde e de matéria seca, porcentagens de folha, de caule e de capítulo, circunferência do caule próximo ao capítulo, porcentagem de plantas quebradas e altura das plantas. Não foram encontradas diferenças significativas para circunferência do caule próximo ao solo, diâmetro do capítulo e porcentagem de plantas acamadas. As características agronômicas avaliadas indicaram que alguns híbridos de girassol apresentam potencial para serem utilizadas como recurso forrageiro para a produção de silagem na safrinha, ou durante o período seco do ano.

The objective of this study was to evaluate some important agronomic traits for silage production of 12 hybrids and a variety of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) participant of the national assay of sunflower, in the agricultural year of 1996/97. The experiment was conducted from February to June 1997. The experimental procedure followed a randomized block design and the means values were compared by Student-Newman-Keuls test. Significant differences among hybrids for fresh and dry matter productions, leaf, head and stem percentages, stem's circumference close the head, broken plants percentage and height of the plants were observed. No significant differences among hybrids for stem's circumference close the ground, diameter of the head and laying plants percentage were found. The agronomic traits indicated that some hybrids of sunflower present potential to be used for silage production in double-cropping system, or during the drought.
